Patriot K-9 Training and Consulting was founded from a desire to see professionally trained, high quality canines placed into our police departments. The head trainer and owner, Travis Walthall, has been working canines on the streets since 1999. In 2001, Travis became the K-9 Team Leader within his department. In addition to other duties, he has been responsible for the maintenance training of all department canines and conducts training with other area departments as well. Travis has also been responsible for administrative duties within the K-9 Team which include handler selection, being a liaison with command staff, canine testing and selection, initial canine and handler training, vendor relations, and a host of other duties. Under his care, the K-9 Team has grown from two dogs in 1999 to its current five dog team.
Since beginning his K-9 career, Travis has been a member of the North American Police Work Dog Association (NAPWDA). In 2011, Travis became an accredited trainer with NAPWDA and was honored to be named the NAPWDA Trainer of the Year in 2013. In 2015, Travis finished his accreditation as a NAPWDA Master Trainer of narcotic detection/utility canine teams, the first in the history of his department. During the past nine years, Travis has been honored to travel much of the country working with law enforcement canines and their handlers. Travis has also taught firearms at the MSSU Police Academy since 2004 and has been a firearms instructor at his police department since 1997. Travis received his Bachelor of Science degree from MSSU in 2012 and was named Criminal Justice Student of the Year.
As a trainer of police canines, Travis’ greatest desire is to assist law enforcement agencies in any way he can so that they too may have K-9 Teams that they and the public can be proud of. Please feel free to contact Travis with any questions you may have. He would be honored to assist you and your agency.
